Questions

Do I need an account?

No. The email address you pay with is the only thing that ties you to a license.

Does Mink need the internet?

Not to work. Only if you enter a license key does Mink check it with our license server, in the background each time it starts and when a subscription renews. Without a connection your license keeps working until its end date: up to a year for Unlimited, your paid period plus 7 days for Workshop. How licenses work

Can a key run a script?

Yes, through Apple Shortcuts: a key can run any shortcut, and shortcuts can run scripts. Shortcuts on a key are part of Unlimited and Workshop.

Is there a Windows or Android version?

No. Mink is a Mac app with an iPhone companion.

Is Mink in English?

Not yet. Its menus and editor are in German for now. Your keys say whatever you name them.

What Mink needs, and its limits

A Mac with macOS 26 and an iPhone with iOS 27, on the same Wi-Fi or joined by a USB cable.

  • On the Mac, Mink needs macOS 26 or later and lives in the menu bar.
  • On the iPhone, it needs iOS 27 or later and runs in landscape. Stand it next to your keyboard.
  • On networks that hide devices from each other, Mink tries the last address that worked.
  • Any keyboard layout works: shortcuts are stored as the character, not the key.
  • Keyboard shortcuts, media keys and windows need Accessibility access. Mink asks when a key needs it.
  • Brightness works on the Mac's built-in display only.
  • The USB cable path is new. If it doesn't connect, use Wi-Fi and tell us.
  • iPad runs Mink in landscape but isn't tailored to it yet.
  • Keys use system symbols. Your own images aren't supported.
  • Sequences run in order. For conditions or loops, call an Apple Shortcut.
  • Mink's menus and editor are in German for now. Your keys say whatever you name them.

What Mink tells you, and what to do

Mink names problems in plain sentences, never as error codes.

No Wi-Fi, or mobile data only

Mink says: „Kein WLAN“ or „Nur Mobilfunk“

Join the same Wi-Fi as your Mac, or plug in a USB cable.

The network keeps devices apart

Mink says: „Dieses Netz trennt die Geräte.“

Guest and office networks often do. Use a USB cable or a different network.

The Mac is asleep, locked, or Mink isn't running

Mink says: „Der Mac schläft.“ or „Der Mac ist gesperrt.“ or „Mink ist auf dem Mac beendet.“

Wake the Mac, unlock it, or open Mink.

The Mac shows up but won't connect

The macOS firewall is blocking incoming connections. Mink says so at the top of its menu, with a line that opens the right setting.

Keys don't type anything

Switch on Mink in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.

A key does nothing in a password field

That's Secure Input, macOS protecting you. It also applies to Terminal with Secure Keyboard Entry on.

The Live Activity doesn't appear

iOS starts it only while Mink is open on your iPhone. Open Mink once. On Free, the Live Activity is not available; it's part of Mink Unlimited and Knieses Workshop.

A key says it isn't available on this Mac

Mink says: „Auf diesem Mac nicht verfügbar“

That key, page or profile is beyond the Free plan. It's kept in the editor and works again with Mink Unlimited or Knieses Workshop.

Another iPhone is connected

Mink says: „Ein anderes iPhone ist verbunden“

On Free, one iPhone connects at a time. Disconnect the other one, or use Unlimited or Workshop for several.

Pair again

Remove the iPhone in Mink's settings under Devices (Geräte), then scan a new code.

Opening Mink the first time

If macOS says it can't check Mink, click Done. Then open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to Mink, and confirm. You only do this once. [CONFIRM the exact macOS 26 flow before launch]

No camera on the Mac? Copy the code as a link and AirDrop it.

Keys and subscriptions

Lost key, new Mac, canceling: everything is on the License page.
